WISDOM OF THE AGES is based on an audio/visual-rich set of experiences that allow seniors to share information about their current productive roles in their communities. Compelling images photographed by Betsey Barfield, of these noble people will be accompanied with an audio component, spoken in their own words.
The Photo Display: The subjects of our exhibit are featured in black and white photographs that are 16" by 24". They are framed identically so that the differences you see and notice are the characteristics of the faces looking back. If you look closely, you will see a common thread, a passion for living. Press the audio box beneath each photo and hear stories of their lives, in their own words. Bring your MP3 player to enjoy The Brogan's first pod casting experience. If you don't have an MP3 player, you can rent one in the Museum store.
The Story Booth: Maybe you are a senior or there is an important senior in your life. Enter the story booth and tell your story. It can be one of your best memories or something to share with others that will inspire appreciation of our elders.
The Amazing Aging Machine: Ever wonder what you might look like 10, 20, or even 30 years from now? Wonder no more, sit in our special
aging booth and
get a glimpse
into your
physical future. Since a primary objective is to affect younger visitors by changing their perception, related programs will include a series of events both on site and via outreach. Area seniors will conduct workshops, serve as exhibit docents, interact with school groups and otherwise have a dynamic presence in the Museum and as Museum volunteers.
One aspect of the project will be a NEWSPAPER IN EDUCATION publication. This 8 to 12-page tabloid section will be delivered to regional classrooms, inside the community¹s daily newspaper, for six consecutive weeks. It will also be an instert into The Tallahassee Democrat. Teachers will build lesson plans and classroom experiences around the publication, which also serves as an important tool in the fight for literacy. Content of the publication will detail the exhibit and highlight resources on the topic readily accessible in the communities and on-line. The publication will serve as an exhibit guide, available to all Museum visitors, and is created in partnership with area teachers, education administrators, local newspaper publishers, and with input from all project partners.
